CARMELINA HOLLOWAY TO SHARE EXPERIENCES FROM THE 1955 MOVIE SET ‘GIANT’
The Paradise Historical Society will hold it’s bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the United Methodist Church Annex in Paradise, Texas.
Guest presenter for the evening will be Carmelina Holloway of Decatur, Texas. Mrs. Holloway will share her experiences as a movie extra on the set of the movie epic “Giant”, which was released in 1956. The movie won 4 Oscars and 12 nominations and was based on the 1952 novel by Edna Ferber by the same name. The book and the move covered the family life of a Texas cattle rancher and their conflicts. Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean – in his final film role- starred in the movie. Mrs. Holloway was a student at the University of Texas at El Paso and worked on set during the summer of 1955. She is a native of Marfa, Texas where outdoor scenes for the movie were shot on location.
In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.
