BART LARGENT REVEALS DETAILS ABOUT THE NOTORIUS MACHINE GUN KELLY

The Paradise Historical Society announces a book signing event to be held Saturday, March 3, 2018. Bart L. Largent, a local Texas author and historian will be on hand to autograph his new book, “George Machine Gun Kelly – the Complete Story of His Life, Crimes, & Death”.

This year, 2018, marks the 85th year since the notorious criminal and kidnapper, George Barnes, aka Machine Gun Kelly, was convicted of kidnapping and holding hostage Charles Urschel, an Oklahoma oil man, for $200,000 ransom. Mr. Urschel was held captive in the run-down farmhouse near Paradise, Texas owned by the R. G. “Boss” Shannon family in 1933. Mr. Shannon was the step-father of Machine Gun Kelly’s wife, Kathryn. A recent play, entitled, “Eight Days in Paradise” was presented by the Paradise Historical Society during the months of November, December and January which focused on the events of those days Mr. Urschel was held captive.

Mr. Largent’s book will provide readers, historians, and true-crime enthusiasts with ‘the rest of the story’ by revealing details never before published. Elements of the fact-filled-pages chronicles the early life of George Kelly Barnes, his path into crime, and the many aliases, acquaintances, accomplices and escapades; as well as a peak into his life as an inmate in Alcatraz and Leavenworth. This true-crime book also will reveal much about the celebrated man-hunt to apprehend Kelly and his wily, head-strong wife, Kathryn; the FBI sweep, and the detectives who swore to put an end to the gangster crime wave of the 1920-30’s.

Bart Largent spent over thirty five years researching George “Machine Gun” Kelly and the ilk he socialized with. His research of books, newspaper accounts and government archive records has led to the recent publishing of all the compiled information in good-reading form. Readers will not be disappointed in the many details revealed in this newest American-gangster non-fiction. Mr. Largent’s career began as an EMT and firefighter; then progressed to over 30 years in law enforcement. He is currently a federal officer with the US Treasury.

The book signing event will be held at the Paradise Museum, 216 Main Street, Paradise, Texas from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM. A limited quantity of books will be available for purchase during the event, so patrons are encouraged to purchase books in advance on Amazon.com.
